- jreicherFor pr070cal's learning it might be better not to use org.json. It does a bit of work for you.
- NeXeNnow tickerData i put there is essentially your ticker that provides JSONObject so you already have the lib
- pr070cali wrote an application to go through crytos with api
- pr070caland check if they have risen like 20%
- pr070calfrom when i opened the software
- pr070calit also tracks the price it its lower
- pr070calive seen some huge rises over 1000%
- pr070calbut over the day the rise is the same as the drop and change = 0%
- deeboany suggestions for a local otel collector for recording and viewing spans for testing easily without setting up massive infra for it
- deebomm grafana seems to have some solution for this. hopefully i have the ram to run it
- Parajaeger works fine
- ParaGrafana isn't really a span viewer in the sense, although it's not entirely pointless either.
- ParaI guess the big question is what is the actual deployment target as these systems are complex enough that it'll be annoying to try to maintain more than one architectural system for the same task.
- ParaWhen running locally it can even be a good thing if the db resets after every restart etc. as long as it fits into your devbox' resources such as memory.
- deebowe have dynatrace, just want to verify configuration locally instead of going through long deployment cycles and debugging configs etc
- deebodynatrace agent can merge opentelemetry traces into its own, but need to add some stuff between their own traces and ours so it nests properly
- ParaAh, yet another small multi-billion startup...
- ParaAssuming otel you would just need to add span/trace id:s to get things working? And that's entirely clientside, isn't it?
- deeboaws' jdbc wrapper generates spans for every ResultSet#getWhatever, but dynatrace doesn't create parents for these, so have to add some custom stuff so they're nested and not shown as "rest api call -> 1000 ResultSet#get* spans"
- deebospring boot added an opentelemetry starter in v4, so hopefully it gives proper nesting with automatic generation of spans for repositories etc
- ParaSo that would be @NewSpan, @ContinueSpan etc.
- Parahttps://docs.spring.io/spring-boot/reference/actuator/observability.html
- ParaTBH I basically prompted Claude when I was figuring these things out until it managed to tell me that these things even exist :)
- ParaThe opentelemetry space is oddly dense and opaque.
- Parahttps://spring.io/blog/2025/11/18/opentelemetry-with-spring-boot
- ParaOn this topic, I should probably update my tracing config, it's gotten a bit old.
- NeXeNdeebo: jaeger, otel collector, grafana alloy or lgtm in a docker container is convenient

- NeXeNoops didn't mean to repeat
- Optici would love to see spring publish opinionated grafana dashboard templates for Boot apps
- ParaMaybe that's a business opportunity for you.
- ParaOpinionated Spring Boot Solutions, sell them as licenceable templates.
- Opticat this point i just want to open a bakery
- cheeserbook/coffee shop is my fantasy.
- Opticoo that sounds good too. or maybe i could just be that old man who sits in the park and feeds the pigeons. he seems pretty content
- ParaIn some alternate life I'd be a machinist or somesuch.
- ParaThere is irony in that mechanic work has also become partially nerd stuff as well with computers and all this.
- Opticit’s true
- Opticin technical java fun, canada is doing a massive timezone shuffle and flipping around DST behaviour in a bunch of provinces on a short timeline
- Opticand java has the weird situation where they half use the OS and half use their internal tzdata
- dreamreali wish y'all were bakers and booksellers too
- dreamrealand barista sounds about right, cheeser... you can misspell peoples' names and then wax on about useless philosophy
- Optici think i need to wait for the latest openjdk builds from eclipse and bellsoft and see how things look
- Opticeclipse has a “we’re building september now” banner on the temurin page
- dreamrealOptic: which jvm are you on?
- Opticbunch of old systems running bellsoft-21 32bit, everything else temurin-21+
- Opticso at least i’m in supported regime 😂
- Optici haven’t had to deal with this since we went to George Bush DST 😂
- ParaWe just keep having the bi-annual "we should stop changing clocks but we can't be assed [because everyone agrees to it unanimously so there's no political points to win]" discussion.
- ParaI've been thinking of starting a political trolling party to get issues like that pushed onwards.
- ParaOn purpose be against obvious things to provide the reason to actually do them.
- Tenchihello java 27 good bye -XX:+EnableJVMCI
- cheeser(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ and good riddance
- Tenchihah
- jreicherPara: I'm a bit surprised Microsoft never campaigned for it; seems easier for them than writing correct code.
- ChronosNever heard of -XX:+EnableJVMCI before, sounds like I'm fortunate, heh
